Weekend Full of Culture

This weekend has been full of theatre and dance. We had a lovely time at Purdue both Friday and Saturday evening.

Friday my husband, daughter and I saw the theatre department's production of Hamlet. It was very enjoyable. The cast of graduate and undergraduate acting students was brilliant! I was pleasantly reminded of the all too familiar phrases like "Neither a borrower or lender be", "Frailty thy name is woman", "To thine own self be true" and of course, "There's something rotten in the state of Denmark."

Then Saturday evening my daughter and I saw the Martha Graham Dance Company. They did a show titled "Prelude and Revolt: Denishawn to Graham". It was a suite of dances that traced the emergence of Graham's unique theatre and distinctive movement vocabulary from her days at Denishawn School. It's was very interesting as it was narrated by Janet Eilber, artistic director of the Martha Graham Center. She told the story of Martha's journey through dance. I love to learn about the people behind the art.

Though, I admit, my normal speed is more like "Oklahoma" and "So You Think You Can Dance", both shows were very entertaining.

Junk Drawers

Okay, 'fess up! You know you have one, if not two or three. I know I do. And, it's getting to the point of overflowing. What would we all do without a good place to stash those niggly little items that really have no other logical place? I thought I'd share a few of mine and a few others I've found online. What fun! Can you guess which ones are mine?

If you guessed drawer one and two, you are correct.

Find Fobulous! Here

It's so exciting when someone places a wholesale order to put my products in their brick and mortar shop. Southern Bliss has been a regular customer for a while now. The shop is located in Frisco, TX and though I've not actually been to Frisco, it looks like the kind of shop I love to frequent. Take a look.

Growing Hope: The Carried Away Team 2010 Spring Challenge

After the trying year we all faced in 2009, the Etsy team I belong to wants to start 2010 off with thoughts about how we can all grow this year and make better lives for ourselves and our community.

Creations for this challenge represent growth in either a literal sense, such as growing food or plants or a more abstract sense such as growing your heart or growing a community. All proceeda go to our team's loan fund on We have chosen Kiva for it's unique ability to connect lenders with borrowers in a cycle of continuous uplift & community growth. Lenders on Kiva can make loans to entrepreneurs or collectives the world over in amounts as small as $25. The loans are used to start or expand small businesses that provide much needed items, jobs & services in that community. Once the loan is repaid, the money can be lent to another business person and then lent again and again. The funds from this challenge will start our cycle of growth. Updates will be posted to our blog at goal with this challenge is to sow our team lending fund with a seed of $150 in order to make our first three loans. Each member who participates has also seeded our fund with $5. 100% of your purchase price for these salutes to growth will be added to our fund.

Here are some shots of my contribution to the challenge. It's a rather literal interpretation of growth. Check out the other items that my fellow teammates have created at our team shop.

Two Great Etsy Suppliers

Today I'm giving a call out to two of my favorite Etsy suppliers. JennifersJewels and Rememberwynn supply me with sew-in labels and custom buttons for my key fobs. Both Jennifer and Angie have amazing products. I've been getting my labels from Jennifer for quite a while now. She is a great communicator, very professional and her items arrive quickly. And, though I've just started dealing with Angie, I am very impressed with my first order. It came packaged so nicely and she was willing to work with my schedule. Most importantly, the quality of both products is top notch! I highly recommend these ladies and their products.
