After the trying year we all faced in 2009, the Etsy team I belong to wants to start 2010 off with thoughts about how we can all grow this year and make better lives for ourselves and our community.
Creations for this challenge represent growth in either a literal sense, such as growing food or plants or a more abstract sense such as growing your heart or growing a community. All proceeda go to our team's loan fund on www.Kiva.org. We have chosen Kiva for it's unique ability to connect lenders with borrowers in a cycle of continuous uplift & community growth. Lenders on Kiva can make loans to entrepreneurs or collectives the world over in amounts as small as $25. The loans are used to start or expand small businesses that provide much needed items, jobs & services in that community. Once the loan is repaid, the money can be lent to another business person and then lent again and again. The funds from this challenge will start our cycle of growth. Updates will be posted to our blog at http://www.carriedawayteam.blogspot.com.Our goal with this challenge is to sow our team lending fund with a seed of $150 in order to make our first three loans. Each member who participates has also seeded our fund with $5. 100% of your purchase price for these salutes to growth will be added to our fund.
Here are some shots of my contribution to the challenge. It's a rather literal interpretation of growth. Check out the other items that my fellow teammates have created at our team shop.
